The Department of Agrifood Production and Environmental Sciences of UNIFI is responsible of the Agricultural Sciences and Wildlife Sciences undergraduate degrees and of the following graduate degrees: Agricultural Science and Technology, Rural Development, Wildlife Management, Tropical Rural Development.
UNIFI has, since 1991, conducted research on autochthonous pig breed, facing all the aspects related to the conservation and exploitation of local genetic resources with particular with respect to inbreeding control, nutritional requirements, quality of fresh meat & seasoned products, cooperation among suppliers and between suppliers & retailers in the food chain, and the development of specific brands. UNIFI has considerable expertise in animal genetics and meat quality. UNIFI has published widely and has numerous collaborative projects with farmers and industry. UNIFI is comprised of 14 researchers plus technical staff.
